Childhood Revisited

Yes we are rednecks!  We walked into Walmart this afternoon and they had a display of moon pies.  Thomas immediately went and got a 12 pack of RC Cola.  Now we just need to sit down and watch an Andy Griffith movie while "snacking".

Yes, the movie is a must to round out the whole experience.  It will remind me of my childhood.  Every Sunday afternoon there was always an old movie on the television. Some of them I really hated and learned to get lost in my books or would actually go clean my room.  Because of those Sunday afternoons I fell in love with some of the older movies, the actors and actresses from years gone by and some old fashioned comedy. It was while watching one of those Sunday afternoon matinees (as the television station called it) that I fell in love with the movie, Father Goose, the actors Cary Grant and Rock Hudson, and the actresses, Doris Day.

I really used to enjoy was the Ma and Pa Kettle movies and anything that Doris Day was in. And if a musical was on I was glued to the television.  I still to this day love The Sound of Music.

Pedi-Time

Today I did one of my favorite things... I got a pedicure.  My nail tech is awesome! She always asks what I want to do and I always tell her the same thing.  "I don't know. Something 'fun'." This is why I say she is so awesome, she asks what shade of pink I want (I am telling you, she knows me well) and then you can almost see the idea churning in her mind.  This time I was kept in the dark a little on the end result.  I knew the shade of pink and that there would be black and silver (again, she knows me). She did her magic and gave me another awesome pedicure.

It may be a bit hard to see, but all my little bitty toenails are painted a gorgeous pink and my big toe is black with a silver strip and the aforementioned pink. Oh and of course a little BLING.

After my pedicure I got my manicure and once again, she hit it out of the park. We went with the same colors from my toes and did it just a tad bit different.

And so the journey begins

Today my nephew, Kody, became property of the United States Army National Guard. As he took this vow, made this promise, and swore to be all he could be he took a major step into adulthood. October 17, 2012 is the actual day he has to report for basic training. As I type this I am forced to realize my sweet little nephew is now a man.

Oh where have the years gone? Wasn't it just last year he was that little boy who was fishing with his cousin using his Scooby Doo fishing pole? The memories over the years are many and it makes me realize how thankful I am that he has been a part of my life all these years.

I look forward to watching him grow and become the man he is destined to be.

A little about me.

This is me on a typical Monday morning. Mondays and I don't usually get along.  I am not sure when it happened but somewhere along the way Monday decided to become my nemesis and has been wreaking havoc on my life ever since. My favorite day of the week is Friday.  It is the start of the weekend and during the months of June and July I have Fridays off.  Yes, I love my job.

So, a little about me and what this blog is all about.  If you are reading this you already know the basics such as my name, location, marital status, etc. But, in case you don't know I will take this opportunity to remind you.  My name is Rhonda.  I live in the Southeast part of the Land of ahhhhhs with my Prince Charming (husband Thomas) and spoiled dog, Tanner. I have two wonderful kids (Tommy and Donna) and three awesome grandsons (Marc, Tony and Donovan).  The other loves of my life are my nieces and nephews (whom you will probably hear all about in later posts).

This blog came about in part because of something my daughter is doing on Facebook.  She is doing a project 365.  She takes a picture a day and posts it or tries to.  While talking to Thomas about it, he came up with the idea that I should do a blog instead.  So, My Life in Pictures was started.

A little known fact about me is I am actually very shy (you can quit laughing now).  It is true.  I get very nervous in new situations and in crowds when I know no one.  And public speaking use to terrify me so bad I would just shake like a leaf.  The days I would have to give oral reports in school I would be physically sick for hours before that class knowing I would have to get up in front of the whole class and read. I guess that is funny to know that I get so nervous considering I have been in front of crowds running meetings, giving presentations and reading minutes, etc for a few years now.

Another little known fact is I am addicted to facebook, okay that is not a little known fact.  Everyone knows it.  :)  I enjoy seeing what my family and friends are doing.  It is also a great way to share pictures of family members when we all live so far apart and do not get to see each other often.
